TEX IS MORE

Textile innovations for protection, comfort and care

TEX IS MORE is a valorization consortium of Ghent University Association. Our primary focus is business development to the benefit of all segments in textile industry.

TEX IS MORE builds bridges between academic research and industrial applications in textiles.

We create solutions for the needs of (end) users from a technology and business perspective.

TEX IS MORE is a catalyst for textile innovations that benefit humans, animals and nature.

Contact us if you are seeking novel technology to further exploit or if you need support for your own research. Apart from our business expertise and scientific knowledge, we offer an interesting portfolio of supporting services such as consumer research, technical advice, IP and legal support, state-of-the-art lab infrastructure, real life simulation immersive rooms, prototyping and last but not least access to a like-minded community. Sustainability and circular economy are a guiding focus for our projects.

We are flexible in the way you wish to collaborate: from licenses over spin-offs, from bilateral to jointly funded projects.

What is a valorization consortium?

Ghent University Association has a long-time experience in exploitation of research a.o. via its +25 consortia a.k.a. Business Development Centers.

A Business Development Center groups complementary research departments around a specific application area or domain of expertise. For TEX IS MORE the focus is textiles.

Each center is responsible for technology transfer within its area of competence and its mission is to realize economic and societal value by stimulating and facilitating valorization of innovative knowledge and technology created by Ghent University Association.

A center is headed by a business developer who acts as your direct point of contact for industrial partnerships, be it research, services, collaborative research or IP licensing.

Exploitation can have many faces from transferring knowledge towards industry, government and/or non-profit organization to the creation of new companies.

In addition to our extended portfolio of expertise and IP we offer different services to our markets.

Textiles are at the heart of all our activities and our experience, knowhow and IP covers:

  • Fibre and polymer technology
  • Material and process modelling
  • Functional textiles and applications
  • Sustainability and society

As a successful launch requires more than only technology, we offer a broad scope of additional tools:

  • Consumer research
  • Infrastructure and prototyping
  • Matchmaking IP and partners
  • IP & legal framework
  • Business acumen and innovation

What are the core activities of a consortium / business developer?

Academic:

  • Create awareness and inspire researchers about commercial exploitation, innovation and entrepreneurship

  • Scout results of research with industrial exploitation potential

Industrial:

  • Support project requests (exploitation goal)

  • Build research collaboration and related legal framework

  • Support service models and agreements

  • File and manage intellectual property rights

  • Negotiate and grant licenses

  • Create spin-offs and coach entrepreneurship

General:

  • Active participation in innovation networks within industry, sector federations, seed funds, VC’s, startup incubators and science parks

  • Policy support and communication about industrial exploitation and innovation

TEX IS MORE is very flexible when it comes to opportunities to collaborate. There is not one approach that fits all, as each innovation is unique and yours will surely be unique too.

Maybe you are looking for support related to your innovation and development activities in domains which you are not familiar with. Or you currently have a shortage in capacity and need extra capacity?

We offer support for dedicated projects which can be a one-time collaboration. Of course we hope you will be satisfied with our service and deliverables and hope to see you back soon afterwards for a next project.

We can also collaborate in a more structured way and setup a partnership where we commit to support each other around a specific domain of research or jointly explore solutions for a specific trend that impacts your business.

Any reason is good to contact us. Together we'll look into the best way to help and make you market your textile innovation successfully. And if you're not sure yet, please contact us anyway. A first exploratory meeting will reveal interesting possibilities and at least also further shape your own idea. This early stage contact and support is part of our activities. And the first meeting(s) is (are) free of charge!
