TEX IS MORE - more than 'just' textiles

What's in a name?

We have carefully chosen TEX IS MORE as the name for our consortium to position us close to industry.

In the academic world, acronyms are omnipresent and this is also true for consortia. Often these abbreviations emphasize the gap between the world of academic research and the corporate daily challenges. Reason for which we decided to launch with a more commercial name.

Although a name should be self-explanatory and we prefer to leave the interpretation to your imagination, sometimes we get asked what we mean with TEX IS MORE. Here's a couple of motivations:

  • We wish to position the textile industry as an appealing sector far away from the old times' old-fashioned and nowadays polluting image it sometimes wrongly gets. Textiles are more than that.
The textile industry is a sector of highly innovative solutions where stakeholders spend a lot of efforts towards a more sustainable planet.

  • When you ask people about textile innovations, they often do not get any further than referring to the clothes they wear and the fabrics they have in their interiors. Textiles are more than that.
There are a lot of rather invisible applications in textiles in surprising solutions that are less known to the larger public. Think about composite materials in automotive and aviation, sound absorbing insulation integrated in the doors of your car, medical patches,…

  • The potential of textiles is underestimated. Look at the broader performance of what looks like just a piece of fabric and you'll discover interesting opportunities. Textiles are more than what you would perceive at first sight.
Textiles get 'built-in' functionalities that render these smart and create added value. Sometimes the visible textile is only the carrier of breakthrough technology to comfort consumers in their daily lives.

  • The name is also a wink to the composition and activities of our consortium.
Textile expertise and knowledge are the backbone of TEX IS MORE. However and in line with what we mentioned above, added value is in the presence of multi-disciplinary research groups all contributing to enrich textiles.
Though our core mission is about valorization we offer an extended range of services from user research over immersive rooms and prototyping towards sound business solutions.

We are and do more than just textiles!

TEX IS MORE contributes to a positive image and attractiveness of a strong textile sector.
